If you reside in the United States, the following are some typical questions and answers we hear regarding unclaimed property. If you don’t see the answer to your question here, feel free to email us at wyomingup@wyo.gov , call us at 307-777-5590 or chat with us during normal business hours (8 am to 5 pm Mountain Time Monday through Friday).
Q: How do I find my unclaimed property?
A: We encourage you to watch the 2-minute instructional video at www.mycash.wyo.gov to learn how to locate your property and subsequently file a claim. After you file your claim, look for an emailed claim form to arrive within 30 minutes. It will be a PDF file attached in the email. If you do not see it after that time, please check your spam folder. The claim form will provide instructions and a checklist of what documents you will need to upload to our system.
Q: How do I know what documents to send?
A: After you file your claim, look for an emailed claim form to arrive within 30 minutes. It will be a PDF file attached in the email. If you do not see it after that time, please check your spam folder. The claim form will provide instructions and a checklist of what documents you will need to upload to our system.
Q: How do I send my documents?
A: You can select the “Submit Evidence for your active claim” link on our main page or click here to go directly there. Please note you will want to reference your Claim ID number found at the top right corner of the claim form you received (not to be confused with your property ID numbers) and the email address you utilized when starting the claim.
Q: How do I know if you received my documents?
A: You should wait at least 30 minutes before checking, but you can select the “Check the status of your active claim” link on our main page or click here to go directly there. The status should let you know if we have your document(s) or if we are waiting for you to submit additional documents in order for us to continue.
Q: How long does it take for my claim to be approved?
A: Note the time depends on when you send us your documents. Each time you submit a new document, you go to the back of the queue, so don’t re-send documents unless we request that you submit something else (or re-submit a clearer version). As for the length of time, that is dependent on how many claims we have in our system and also the complexity of your claim. Deceased claims and dissolved business claims typically take longer than the estimated times shown for standard/owner claims.
Q: Why doesn’t my property show if I received a due-diligence letter telling me Wyoming has my money?
A: Reports from businesses around world are sent each year in October and it takes time for our team to reconcile every report. We typically have all new properties listed on our website by mid-January, so if you don’t see your property after that date feel free to email us at wyomingup@wyo.gov , call us at 307-777-5590 or chat with us during normal business hours (8 am to 5 pm Mountain Time Monday through Friday).
Q: Why do you want my Social Security number?
A: We use your Social Security number to help verify your identity and ensure that we are paying the right person. If you do not feel comfortable providing this information on our website, you can enter all zeroes instead. Please note if you go that route it may slow the processing time for your claim down and delay payment.
Q: Can I get my money deposited directly into my bank account?
A: At this time, Wyoming will only make payment via check to anyone residing in the United States or Canada. If you live in another country, you may request that we utilize a foreign wire transfer to make payment.
Q: Why does my claim show “paid” when I haven’t received my money?
A: Our system indicated that the claim is paid the same day we issue the check. Depending on where you live, it may take time for your check to arrive via USPS. If your check was for more than $5,000, your check would have been sent via USPS certified mail and you will need to sign for it.
