Investing: Wyoming's Future
The State Treasurer's Office manages over $20 billion in assets. The State's portfolio consists of nine investment pools. To safeguard Wyoming's money and yet earn a profit, the State invests in many different types of investments. We invest in domestic and international stocks, bonds, real estate and alternative assets.
By diversifying the portfolio, this helps to lower the volatility and allows the State to have a better risk adjusted return. This is the basic tenet of modern portfolio theory. We partner with global asset managers and consultants to structure the portfolio under the State's guidelines and laws.
This structure helps the Treasurer's Office achieve its primary objective of safety and liquidity while investing for the maximum return.
